About Us
Clear Mind Zen is about getting off our seat and into action. It is the path of a Bodhisattva warrior. Clear Mind Zen is Engaged Zen.
The Order of Clear Mind Zen was established by the Rev. Dr. Harvey Daiho Hilbert-roshi who was ordained in the Soto tradition in the lineage of Rev. HoGaku McGuire-roshi, and the Very Rev. Dr. Soyu Matsuoka-roshi. At Rohatsu 2000, Rev. Daiho was given Dharma Transmission, and was made "Roshi" at Rohatsu 2005. The Order is independent, and is not affiliated with Soto Shu in Japan. True Zen practice is not nationally or ethnically based. Zen is Zen. It is the complete Buddha Way. Clear Mind Zen is the Zen of everyday life, which is manifest in a deep commitment to the Three Pure Precepts. We practice streetZen, a socially engaged practice of bearing witness to war, poverty, and ecological issues. We practice Zazen daily at home. We are affiliated with Bernie Glassman-roshi's Zen Peacemaker Sangha and with the Buddhist Peace Fellowship. We also maintain a small retreat center in the Sacramento Mountains near Cloudcroft, NM where sesshin are conducted. We have affiliated centers in El Paso Texas,Northern California, and are currently working to establishing an affiliate center in Juarez, Mexico, as well. When we live with Clear Mind we do what is front of us to do, nothing added - nothing special. Please consider joining us and establishing your own Clear Mind practice. A bow to you, Rev. Dr. Harvey Daiho Hilbert, Abbot
